After reading Lessig, "Remix," I felt like it was a very put together piece of what we have been talking about in class. I was really excited to read about GirlTalk because my friends and I have been GirlTalk fans for a long time, as a matter of fact they played at the University for Fall Fest in 2009. I feel that people using artists work shouldn't be considered copyright infringement because they aren't trying to steal their music or their lyrics. The Buffy vs. Edward clip was quite enjoyable for me because I am a very big fan of both Edward and Buffy. It was really awesome to see these two infused together. It wasn't that the artist was trying to steal the work of the owners of Buffy or Edward, but just doing something fun and interesting. It's really confusing to think about, but our culture is so based around media, yet our laws aren't up to date with what the media can do. What should we do?

Jackie: Yes, GirlTalk is awesome and I think Gillis is exactly right in his assessment of where culture is going. One thing I like about the Edward vs. Buffy video is that it comments on the two films/shows, comments on the fans, comments on the characters; and does it in a clever and fun way. It's useful and important to notice and think about the type of thinking/commentary engaged by remixes: fun and smart. What should we do? A good final question! Hope the laws change and keep creating...
