What am I doing?

What am I doing? I'm not sure . . . I don't really know which would be the best for my project. I think I might make an online magazine about online magazines and use a lot of the neat things like a hyper story and a video and pictures etc. I could also make links to other cool online magazines. hmm, the possibilities are endless!

Here is a HOW TO

It is debatable, but I think the author of a video on youtube is the person who recorded it or the person who created it. People on youtube post all different kinds of videos from all sorts of media mediums. You tube makes money from all of the ads. I think that after you post your video to you tube, they have the rights to it, but i'm not sure if I think that it is right or not? hmm

Concepts

I think I will incorporate remix culture (Lessig) in my topic. Most of the online magazines that are made from blogs are just using information that they gather from actual magazines or their websites. Its not like they are going celebrity searching on their own. I'll also focus somewhat on social media. Now that magazines are online, people are able to post feedback and discuss right there on the website for everyone to see. There would be no way for this to be possible with just a plain magazine. Basically, magazines are changing so much because the new culture of the internet. Not how magazines have evolved, but the birth of the online magazine and how it effects print magazines.

When looking at who the author is in an online magazine, should the viewers that write posts on the magazine websites be titled as authors? Online magazines takes magazines to a whole new level by incorporating videos, quizzes, slide shows, and all things ready at your fingertips.

Annotated Bibliography

1. Valdes, Kiki. Valdes, Humby. Open Zine. 1.Open Zine Inc. n.d. website. February 2010.
This website is a free source to create an online magazine. It is really easy and simple, and you can also get print copies of the zine. This is an example of how easy it is to create your own magazine.

People now have the ability to create a magazine for free. While once this was a very major and difficult task, it is now almost simple. Because of the internet, the world is at every persons fingertips to create what they want.

This website is useful for my topic because it helps people create their own free magazine, it is free, and it also helps show all the interesting things that people can do with online magazines.

2. Fuch's, Douglas. "Two Source Effects in Magazine Advertising."Journal of marketing research. 1964. American Marketing Association. 11 Feb 10.

This is an article about the effects that magazine articles effect society. It is a really old article (1964) so it is neat to point out the differences today and how the advertising business has dramatically changed. Now advertising on the internet is a great resource and it's usually either free or cheaper than a regular magazine.

http://heartifb.com/2009/11/13/fashion-blogging-futur/

This website is a Fashion Magazine website that has everything anyone needs to know about fashion and has all of the same content that a regular magazine would have.

3. Boyd, E.B. "Magazine Leaders Want Advertisers to Know: 'We're Not Dead Yet.'' Webnewser. Web Media Brands, Inc. 1 Marc

h 2010. Web. 2 March 2010.

This article is about a conference of large magazine publishers that got together and launched an ad-campaign of, "Print is not dead." They put some great statistics together that is really surprising.

It is interesting that magazines are taking a stand against all the criticism they have received over the years. It is important to note that magazines are not doing as poorly as people may think, they are actually doing really well.

Although this is disproving my theory, this article is critical to my research. Just yesterday, these people met to discuss this issue, which shows its importance and relevance to the world today.

4. Clifford, Stephanie."Newsstand sales and circulation fall for magazines." The New York Times. The New York Times Co. 8 February 2010. Web. 2 March 2010.

This article is about how a lot of magazines have taken a tumble in sales in 2009. It also talks about some of the reasons why, like the bad economy. It also talks about how newsstand sales aren't doing well, but magazine subscriptions are.

The statistics that this article presents is straight from the Audit Bureau of Circulations, so it should be accurate.

Although this article doesn't compare magazines to internet magazines, it still presents a lot of evidence to why online magazines might be doing better.

5. Shea, Danny. "Magazines Websites suffer from poor editing: Columbia Journalism Review Study." The Huffington Post. 1 March 2010. Web. 2 March 2010.

This study is pointing out how online magazines do not go through the same rigorous examinations before they are published, as print magazines do. Not only do simple mistakes show up, but inaccurate facts.

A copy of the study is provided with the article, however, there is no explanation of who Columbia Journalism is or how much credit they have.

The statistics provided may come in handy when comparing print vs. online. This, however, might disprove my theory that online magazines are better than print.

6. Magazine Death Pool. n.p.n.d. Web. 25 January 2010.

This website is a compilation of magazines that have died. Although, it takes a funny death twist in describing the story of the magazines end, it also shows a lot of truth. This website provides a legitimate reason for the magazine's death, and also gives an appropriate obituary.

Although this is not a serious website, it still shows all the magazines that haven't been able to make it. There are a lot of unexpected magazines on the list. Something interesting to point out is, that maybe the magazines that didn't make it, would as an online magazine.

This is useful for my project, because it is evidence proving that magazine are dying.

7. The Magazine Directory.n.p.n.d. 23 February 2010

This website is a large database of online magazines. Provided is a link to the magazine website and a description. They have it in alphabetical order, and also have a search bar to search through the website.

This is basically like going to a newsstand and looking at all of the magazines and choosing one to take home with you, except you already have all of them - and they can be anywhere with you. This is great for all ages, because it has such a large selection of magazines.

This is imperative to my project because it shows how easy it is to have magazines at your fingertips. It also shows another source that print magazines do not have.

8. Seventeen Magazine (Online). Hearst Digital Media. n.d. Web. 2 March 2010.

Seventeen magazine is a well known magazine among girls of all ages. Not only does this website have all of the magazine features, like pictures and stories, it has features that the print-magazine doesn't. Ask and Answer, video's, quizzes, and tons more information.

This website is meant for girls around the age of 17, however, most girls from 13 to 20 read it. It is a good resource, especially for those who can't afford to buy the magazine. The sources that the website has of offer is almost limitless. If you want, you can go back and forth from old to new, and use different media to interact.

Websites like this is the reason why I chose to do my topic, because instead of buying magazines now - I just simply look at the magazines website. It is practically the same thing, the only downside - I can't rip out pictures to paste to my walls, ( but I can print them)!

9. Seventeen Magazine (Paper). Hearst Communications. February 2010 issue. Printed Magazine. 15 February 2010.

The February 2010 edition of the monthly typical seventeen magazine. The magazine has ads, articles, tips, pictures, and gossip! It cost about $5.00 for one issue.

Like the website, this magazine is typical for girls ages 13 to 20 to read. It has a lot of girly information and is nice to have on hand when you are somewhere without internet access.

This magazine holds useful to compare to the online version of the magazine. It will reveal exactly how similar the magazine and the website actually are. Maybe it will give some insight as to why 17 produces a website, and a magazine when they are probably hindering their magazine in the future.

10. Bolter, and Grusin. "The Double Logic to Remediation." 1999. Cambridge, Mass:: MIT Press.

This introduction is about how media has drastically changed lives. They talk about how using webcams and movies take you into another world. With the media available on the internet, anything is possible.

Not only is it possible, but it is thrown in our faces. It would be absurd not to use the internet or the resources that we have available, but what if someone refused it? It is normal for the elderly people who have not grown up with it to not accept it. Would it be okay for someone that is from our era to not accept the
